The Directors
Aubrey Calderwood BSc (Hons) MRICS
Aubrey has over 20 years experience in property taxation and set up and ran the capital allowances practice of a "Big 4" accountancy firm before establishing Capitus with Kevin in 1997.
Over the years he has been involved in all aspects of taxation in commercial property transactions such as the utilisation of capital allowances in sale and purchase negotiations, advising REITs on the operation of the shadow CA regime, international tax depreciation analysis and capital allowances planning for JPUT and off-shore structures, to name but a few.
Aubrey has hands-on involvement with all aspects of the Capitus business. In particular he is currently responsible for the Environmental Tax Incentives division within Capitus which advises on the environmental and regeneration tax incentives that are available for sustainable development and urban regeneration. He is also responsible for the establishment and running of the Capitus Asset Tracking practice.
Having played rugby to the highest level (he made the school team), Aubrey enjoys standing on the terraces and giving the Ulster and Ireland rugby teams the benefit of his vast experience. Aubrey is also a keen runner and hill walker who enjoys exploring the mountains around the UK and the French Alps.
Kevin Meyer BSc (Hons) MRICS
Kevin established Capitus with Aubrey in 1997 and like Aubrey, has over 20 years experience in property taxation.
He has a broad knowledge of all aspects of capital allowances and throughout his career, has been involved with advising on some landmark property transactions acting for some of the UK's largest property investment companies. Kevin has also carried out exercises for a variety of sectors such as nursing homes, pub companies and major multi-site retailers and has successfully advised on a range of major new build and refurbishment projects including numerous shopping centres and several PFI schemes.
Away from work, he is a devoted sportsman and regularly runs, goes to the gym and plays squash. He also loves cricket and takes delight in explaining the intricacies of the game to his co-director Aubrey who neither knows nor cares anything about cricket. He is an Aston Villa fan ... enough said!
Nick Small BSc (Hons) MRICS
Nick joined Capitus from KPMG in 2001 and has overall responsibility for managing workload and quality control in our three offices. He is hugely experienced in all aspects of capital allowances including the interpretation and application of legislation, managing the preparation of capital allowances claims for large institutional-type property portfolios and negotiating and agreeing claims with HMRC when required.
Nick possesses a phenomenally small amount of knowledge of absolutely any subject you would care to mention earning him the name “Nickipedia”. Definitely, top of any phone-a-friend list. He enjoys extreme mountain running, waterskiing and watching Plymouth Argyle although clearly only two of those activities constitute sport.
Jonathan Newton BSc (Hons) MRICS ATT
Jonathan (a.k.a. “Joe”) is our Midlands office manager and is also responsible for the development of our International Tax Depreciation services. He joined Capitus in 2004.
Joe has particular experience of the preparation, management and negotiation of claims for capital allowances and land remediation relief in respect of some of the largest new build and refurbishment projects across the country.
He is a Chartered Surveyor qualified via the RICS taxation route to qualification and is also ATT qualified.
Away from the office, Joe is a “double ironman” - 5 mile swim, 240 mile bike ride rounded off by a nice little 52 mile run - and holds the dubious accolade of being the only ironman with a caravan
Andrew Reid BSc (Hons) PGD ACA
Andrew is a Chartered Accountant and joined Capitus in 2009 from PricewaterhouseCoopers.
He is responsible for providing accountancy support in respect of our International Tax Depreciation services and heads up our Research & Development Tax Relief practice.
Andrew is also responsible for keeping us and our clients informed of any relevant developments in accountancy and taxation and delivers our internal tax technical staff training programme.
Andrew enjoys both playing and spectating sports especially rugby, golf and cricket. He is, by his own assessment (and only his) an awesome footballer.
